For this edition of Spend Vs. Save, let’s look at SAVVY HAIRBRUSHES

 I have two hairbrushes in my collection:

 ANNA SUI TRAVEL FOLDABLE HAIRBRUSH- 30SGD

ETUDE HOUSE ROMANTIC BRUSH- 178PHP

So for the beauty tools savvy, embellished eye candies like these are too hard to pass up. It is a perfect accessory and accent to a vanity table and a lovely thing to tote in your bag which will totally remind you of everything beautiful and sassy.

 So the priciest hairbrush I have ever owned is Anna Sui’s travel brush at 30SGD (approx. 1020php). Let’s first review this one.

Anna Sui has been known for its lovely Victorian and rose detailed accessories which appealed to women of all ages. This travel hairbrush is an additional gift of my mom when she got back from her Singapore trip.

 According to the SA, the bristles of Anna Sui’s brush bristles are infused with silicone that will help in keeping hair healthy and shiny. I don’t know how that works (or if it works) though. Though plastic- made, it is sturdy and is definitely made of the expensive kind of plastic. The bristles are quite sturdy as well.  

Let’s now review Etude House’s romantic beauty brush. It is part of their Romantic collection, which may have been inspired by Anna Sui. And the Romantic Accessories can also pass off as Anna Sui accessories! It is in the same design. Rose and lovely Victorian details.

Etude House’s brush is made of good plastic, but as compared to Anna Sui, Anna Sui feels more tough and sturdy than Etude House, though the latter has some good quality if you’ll think about it. It’s cheap, yet it looks pretty decent.  

 OOPS! Sorry for the dirty brushes. :p

Here’s a comparison picture of the bristles. As you can see, Etude House’s bristles are no different than the common hair brush bristles you’ll find in the market. Anna Sui’s bristles can be compared to the high- end hair brushes (Acca Kappa in particular).

 But in terms of quality, both deliver what they should deliver. The bristles are rounded enough so as to not scratch the scalp too much.

 Apart from being expensive, Anna Sui is unavailable in the Philippines. And if you’re just lemming for an Anna Sui inspired product, Etude House is the answer.

And here's my baby. Actually, I just took a look at Anna Sui HK site and took my chance on this one. I thought that it would be the same color as my Bobbi Brown Pale Pink. But it's the most wonderful color among the swatches. So though with hesitations, I asked mom to get me this shade.

And here's a picture of the brush that's included inside. Unlike the brushes of Benefit powders, this one's really soft! It doesn't scratch my face at all!

302 is a lovely pink lilac blush. It has slight silver shimmers which give your face an illuminating look at the same time.

It's definitely different from my BB Pale Pink and MAC Angel!

This probably one of the most unique blushes I've ever seen. The other one is Nars Lustre. I've tried comparing it with MAC's blush in Angel and Bobbi Brown's Pale Pink but the lilac undertone just made it sooo unique! :)

Here's 302 on moi face. I love it! I wish that you guys can actually see this in person. Lilac and lavender undertones work very well on morena skin. And the color pay- off is a lovely pink sheen. Also, check out the shimmer. It worked as a natural illuminator to give me a glowing skin effect.

Will I buy Anna Sui blushes again? A resounding YES! :)

I asked mum to get me this brush because I just love how sophisticated and classy the brush design is.

It's very compact and lightweight also so no need to worry about it being heavy.

Ah, the beautiful Anna Sui iconic design. :) Mysterious, sexy, victorian and sophisticated. :)

The SA told my mom that the teeth of the brush is infused with silicone that gets activated every time you comb your hair. It aids in keeping it healthy and shiny. The silicone will last for 600 strokes.

I don't know how the silicone thingy works but as far as I'm concerned, I'm in love with the brush! :)

Will I buy Anna Sui accessories again? Prolly yes. I'm actually lemming for a bigger brush and comb and hand mirror to complement my room theme. But the price is pretty steep so I might settle for etude house. But If I visit Singapore, I'll grab a big brush for my vanity table! :)

I got this Anna Sui blush from Ebay. Without any hesitation, I placed a bid on it and I'm more than happy that I have won! FYI, Anna Sui, IMO, is one great brand that you should try. Great packaging, wonderful colors and the rose scent is absolutely divine!

Here's a close- up of the powder. There's the iconic rose insignia of Anna Sui! :)

300 is a pale peach shade, which will look great on fair skinned ladies. I apologize for the inaccurate swatch but this the most accurate shot that I can get. It's a light pale peach matte blush that smells like rose (which is divine). It glides on like silk because of the velvety- smooth texture and it is buildable, so you can control the coverage of the color.

It stays put the whole day which I love! :)

I apologize for the horrendous dark circles, horrifying bed face and terrible swatch. Now you see why I said that it is meant for fair skinned ladies. But I think it just gave me a peach glow from within that's very pretty. Now it ain't too bad after all. :)

Will I buy more AS FCA? Prolly yes! But I have to check 'em out in actual, otherwise I might end up buying something that won't really work for me. :p

Okay, so I need a gray eyeshadow to give a different effect on my smoky- eye make- up look. So I asked mum to get me an Anna Sui eyeshadow.

Here it is. The shade is 005.

This is the new packaging of Anna Sui eyeshadows. The older version is the screw cap type pots. The blushes are in the same packaging as well.

I could pretty much say that this is pretty decent and much convenient than the old packaging. But the old packaging looks very Anna Sui to me! The design sort of gives me an idea on how to beautify and pamper myself--Victorian Style, which made Anna Sui famous and known to girls and make- up lovers.

The compact is a bit big when compared to conventional eyeshadows, but sleek enough to fit even the tightest compartments in your bag or make- up kit. It also comes with a sponge tip applicator. Well, I don't really use it, but I'll never know when it will come in handy so I guess that it's wise to include an applicator in the compact.

Here's a swatch on my skin. 005 is a metal gray color. It is in the shimmer formula. The eyeshadow texture is silky and it applies well and evenly.

It also has Anna Sui's trademark rose scent, which I really, really like. :)

Here is the eyeshadow, swiped twice on my lids. See that it truly is pigmented! There are also slight glimmers that are not bothering at all. The glitters don't fall on your cheek or around your eyes. It is perfectly blended well in the powder. 

Will I buy Anna Sui eyeshadows again? Yes! If I get to visit Singapore, a visit to Wisma Astria is a must! :)

THE VERDICT:

When I first saw the Anna Sui in Wisma Astria in my first visit in Singapore, I saw Anna Sui and fell in love with the counter right away. It’s a standout amongst the common girly themed make- up counters. It’s dominantly black and violet. It’s like a mystical fairy’s dresser! I immediately went to it and purchased my first- ever Anna Sui product, which is a loose powder. Too bad it didn’t work well on me.

If there’s one thing that I like about Anna Sui, it’s their packaging. Black with the lovely Victorian roses and details, which is their iconic design. I never knew plastic can look so good! I also have a penchant for flowers because it makes a room look pretty and it instantly perks up a boring table or dresser. I like roses in particular. That’s why hubby will always give me roses on extra special occasions. And I also love rose- scented linen and room sprays, and even perfumes (particularly TBS’s Morrocan Rose and L'Occitane Rose Verbena).

And apart from the lovely rose detailed packaging, all the products are rose- scented too! And that makes me love Anna Sui stuff so much.

Anna Sui’s Rouge M lipstick is in the matte variant. It comes in different variants:

AS Rouge G- Glossy (ultra glossy shades with luster color pay- off)

AS Rouge S- Shimmer (velvet lipsticks with shimmer)

AS Rouge M- Matte (velvet satiny, matte lipsticks)

AS Rouge V- Velvet (Rich, creamy, pigmented lippies)  

This is actually the new AS lippie packaging. It’s quite pretty, but I find the old packaging better. It exudes the theme and feel of Anna Sui: mystery and seduction. Here’s a pic of the old packaging below:

But I still love the rose design on top of the lipstick cover anyway.  

I like the inscription of the brand name on the tube.

Here’s a swatch of the product on my skin. 350 looks neon pink in the tube but it is definitely wearable. There’s a bit of warmness on the color, so this isn’t definitely plain pink. But at the same time, there’s a bit of brightness on the color, so it’s not definitely plain rose. So I think that it’s a bright rose color. 

Here’s the lipstick on my lips. The texture is like velvet wax. It can be compared to the texture of NYX Round Lipsticks, but AS lippies feel more lightweight on the lips. The pigmentation is good, though it will take you a few swipes to make the color appear on your lips. But what I like about it is that, the coverage is completely controllable. 

And here is moi wearing the lipstick. In terms of staying power, it stays on and will last you for a good three hours with drinking, smoking or eating. I also love the rose scent! If you don’t like scented or rose- scented lippies in particular, then this may not be good for you. But in my opinion, the scent is just light, not overpowering. It doesn’t make me feel light- headed at all.

I’d love to buy more Anna Sui lippies but I have to see ‘em in actual. But for now, I’m currently enjoying my 350!
