PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: MAKE UP FOR EVER LIFT CONCEALER IN 2

Here's an initial review on MAKE UP FOR EVER LIFT CONCEALER IN 2

PRICE: 1350PHP
PLACE BOUGHT: MAKE UP FOR EVER, THE FORT HIGH STREET, FORT BONIFACIO GLOBAL CITY, TAGUIG CITY
OTHER LOCATIONS: SEPHORA; SEPHORA ONLINE; MAKE UP FOR EVER SHANGRI- LA MALL, ORTIGAS, MANDALUYONG CITY

THE VERDICT:

To refresh my dear readers: I've said in my previous posts that I'm on the lookout for an HG concealer. I've tried different brands such as Cinema Secrets, MAC, Laura Mercier, and NYX but haven't found the concealer that will never fade, cake, crease, look chalky, and settle into fine lines.

But to my disappointment, I still haven't found the perfect concealer for me.

I was on the verge of getting Benefit's Boi-Ing or Erase Paste when my I've already reached the bottom of my MAC Studio Sculpt. I've read mixed reviews on Benefit's products and decided to look for one in other brands. After searching for a lot of products and reading tons of reviews, I've decided that Shu Uemura's Pro Concealer is my next purchase.

But when I was in Duty Free, the feeling of getting a Shu Uemura concealer was replaced by my amazement and sudden lemming for Chanel's Rouge Allure in Super.

I ended up buying nothing because I was feeling a bit guilty with my crazy make- up hauls a day before my DF visit.

And when I came to The Fort High Street for dinner, the lemming for a new concealer was back again! I was feeling a bit guilty because I didn't purchase the Shu Uemura concealer at a cheaper price when I had the chance. Screw that lemming for Chanel's lippie!

But I was certain during that time. I need a new concealer. And I went to Make Up For Ever to see what they have to offer.

They have the new HD concealer, but it's in a pen- type packaging. I don't like those kinds of packaging because they can be deceiving. You don't actually get a bang for your buck because there's not much stuff inside the pen.

The kind SA (who remembered me) offered me the Lift Concealer, which is Kim Kardashian and her make- up artist's favorite concealer of all- time. I've been hearing about the Lift line of MUFE, but I don't actually have an idea what it does. Is it meant to give you a face lift? LOL. :p

Anyway, let's now review the product.

The Lift Concealer is in liquid form. This is my first time to try a liquid concealer, so I had to go back for it because I have this slight aversion to experimenting with new products, especially when it comes to the most important ones. In my case, a concealer is very essential, and whatever I buy must be great, always. But there's always time to try something new.

Moving forward.

It comes in a tube, which makes it hygienic. It's also hell pigmented, so a little goes a long way.

It comes in two (2) shades. Two (2) and Three (3). 3 is the lightest (fair skin tones), and 2 is the darkest (medium to dark skin tones).

And here's where's my musing begins. I'm sorry if my introductions is too chatty to some of you. I never run out of words if I find a very good product! To keep you excited, let me spoil the suspense a bit by telling you guys that I think I've found my HG concealer.

The Lift concealer is a lightweight concealer that gives light to medium coverage. It is build- able, and it dries quickly, which saves you time from your make- up session. It spreads well and blends well too. Very pigmented so a little goes a long way.

Now I see the reason why it's in liquid form. Cream concealers have the tendency to cake, because it dries slowly. It can also settle into fine lines because cream and cake concealers are hardly absorbed into the skin, as opposed to liquid ones. And if it is not absorbed well by the skin, it means that it's only on the surface, making it vulnerable to environmental and physical elements, that leads to its fading during wear. Maybe Dany Sanz knew all about these things, that's why she customized her concealer to fit the everyday conditions.

I don't know what the LIFT promise actually does, but in my observation, my under eyes look fresher and brighter! And my dark circles are naturally concealed, without looking chalky too. When it comes to coverage, I prefer something that will lighten my dark circles, not totally eliminate them. Because I've seen women (and men in some occasions) without any sign of dark circles at all! And they all look too made- up. Perfect examples are the looks of make- up SAs.

My eyes without any concealer on.

I use this on my lids as well so my eyes will look fresh and bright too. This is one trick to do if you don't want your concealer to stand out. And the trick in applying concealers is DAB, NOT SPREAD.

And regarding the staying power, I give it 20 stars. It stayed put sans the creasing and fading! And there's more, you can even re- apply this during the day on top of your make- up if you want to refresh your look. And it will not ruin it at all! How cool is that!? :)

I'd like to believe that this Lift concealer has light reflexive properties because it adjusts to whatever lighting I'm in. Whether I'm under natural or artificial lighting, the concealer still looks natural and great!

And this concealer, when blended evenly, does not cast white streaks in pictures. :)

It has a slight perfume- y scent. But it's not bothersome at all, at least in my opinion.

Overall, I'm in love with this concealer. I think I've finally found the one. Being a Gemini, I know that my insatiable curiosity to always try something new will always be a part of me. But as far as I'm concerned, this topples all the concealers from my list, and I don't think that I'll try something new in the coming months! It's currently my HG concealer! And this tube will prolly last me for more than a year! :)

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: MAKE UP FOR EVER EYESHADOW (92 PURPLE)

Here's an initial review on MAKE UP FOR EVER EYESHADOW (92 PURPLE)

PRICE: $19

PLACE BOUGHT: SEPHORA ONLINE

OTHER LOCATIONS: THE FORT BONIFACIO HIGH STREET; SHANGRI- LA MALL, ORTIGAS

THE VERDICT:

Finally, I have this elusive MUFE Eyeshadow #92 Purple. I was so sure that this will be my HG violet eyeshadow since I've read so many good reviews about it and saw on the net the gorgeous swatches.

#92 Purple is a matte eyeshadow. It is a true purple eyeshadow. More like a lighter version of an ube's violet color.

MUFE's eyeshadows are uber pigmented. One swipe is enough to cover the lid area, so this pan will last me pretty long. The pan's bigger than MAC's, which goes to show that you'll get your money's worth.

It has a very impressive staying power. The swatch on my hand was only removed by soap and water. No amount of good rubbing can take this off!

It's such a versatile color. Wear it alone or with a black eyeshadow to intensify the look. Pair it with darker greens for a stunning color combination. Or simply, apply a sheer amount for a wash of purple on your lids.

I will definitely repurchase this violet eyeshadow. But I'm pretty sure this will last me for years. :)

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: MAKE UP FOR EVER HD FOUNDATION IN 160

Here's an initial review on MAKE UP FOR EVER HD FOUNDATION IN 160

PRICE: 2250PHP
PLACE BOUGHT: MAKE UP FOR EVER BOUTIQUE, THE FORT HIGH STREET, FORT BONIFACIO, TAGUIG CITY
OTHER LOCATIONS: MAKE UP FOR EVER BOUTIQUE, SHANGRI- LA MALL, ORTIGAS, PASIG CITY

ON THE SITE: HD Invisible Cover Foundation: An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life. Creates a soft-focus effect, designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It creates a complexion that looks flawless, even in bright or harsh lighting.

The shade 160 is my perfect match, meaning it balanced the color of my neck and face. I literally spent 30 minutes finding the right shade in this foundation because I can't afford to get a wrong shade since this is hell expensive.

160 is a shade named Golden Beige. It best suits dark skins with beige pink undertones. I've always believed that I have yellow undertones but this shade somehow is a perfect match for my skin. Maybe because I have a bit of Italian and Spanish blood so I have a bit of that pink- beige undertone which is maybe around 25% only of my total undertone percentage.

THE VERDICT:

This is probably one of the must- try products of MUFE, as what some beauty bloggers say But I'm quite surprised that it got a so- so review in Makeupalley. Well, reviews are subjective so there's no better way to test a product but to actually try it.

I chose this over Mat Velvet because I am not liking the squeeze bottle and the kind SA, Monica told me that it gives heavy and full coverage, which makes it perfect for the theatre, yet not recommended for everyday use. I want something that I can use for everyday and for the theatre.

My shade

I like the plastic glass bottle. It's lighter, in terms of weight, as compared to their face and body foundation.
The foundation has a pump dispenser. The pump is great because it's much convenient to use than spilling the foundation on your hands and spreading it on your face. It's also mess- free and effortlessly usable.

The only con of this product is it dispenses too much foundation. I also hate that I pumped out a lot of the product for just the swatch photo you'll see ahead. This is expensive so I'd like to use it for a long time. It's also quite hard to give the head a push. But two pumps can already give your facial skin good coverage.

So here's the actual product. In actual, it has a bit of pink undertones but you could still see that it has some yellow undertones lingering on it. It may be just me or MUFE's having a weird shade description, which can be a hassle because there are a lot of bloggers namely pammy and brigitte who got theirs in a wrong shade. The colors are actually tricky. You really have to take a look at your face on a big mirror and apply foundation all over your face (if you want) to get a better view of the shade, or spreading it from the jawline until the middle part of your neck, rather than spreading it on your jawline then just a bit down to the neck. That way, you'll get your right shade and you'll spare yourself from heartache knowing that you wasted 2250php.

THE FOUNDATION ON MY FACE

I love that it's a perfect match with my skin! It's not too white nor too dark. My time spent in the store was all worth it! :D I was spared from getting the wrong foundation shade! :D

So here's my face with the HD foundation up- close. Notice that it's uber flawless. For reference, I have smooth skin, but I'm not spared from the large pores and slight appearance of veins and nasty whiteheads and blackheads. But as you can see, my face is immaculate in this picture! No sight of pores nor any bumps! It truly does make your face picture- perfect!

Here's a shot that gives you a good view of my neck and face. See that my face and neck are even in terms of skin tone.

Overall, I love this because I love that it flatters my facial skin so much by giving it a very good coverage without looking too thick or cakey, which goes to show that the Invisible Coverage is truly a promise. Also, in harsh lighting, my face still looked flawless and softly matte, but not too matte, which sometimes makes a face look too made- up. It also gave my face that lovely radiance which made the overall look of the foundation on my skin look natural. After hours of wear, I noticed that it also controlled my oilies, which makes this perfect for everyday and for the theatre, where retouching is less- needed because we need more time to prepare before entering a scene.

It's long- wearing, so you don't have to worry about this disappearing after a few hours. I've been wearing this for 5 hours now and I still have no sight of oil on my skin and my face literally feels smooth and it still looks softly matte. :D

I've also read reviews that this appears too cakey and heavy on the skin. In my opinion, it's like wearing nothing at all! It all depends on the amount you put on your face. It can go from medium to full coverage by building the foundation on your face. But a little goes a long way. For everyday, I'll apply a sheer amount and for the theatre, I'll apply twice the amount on my facial skin.

I would definitely repurchase this. But I'm sure that this bottle will last me long because a little amount goes a long way. :D I'm on the verge of not trying Bobbi Brown's Skin Foundation anymore because I think I've found my HG foundation. :D

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: MAKE UP FOR EVER AQUA EYES WATERPROOF PENCIL EYELINER IN 1L (GRAY) AND 10 (BLACK)

Here's an initial review on MAKE UP FOR EVER AQUA EYES WATERPROOF PENCIL EYELINER IN 1L (GRAY) AND BLACK (10)

PRICE: 950PHP EA.
PLACE BOUGHT: MAKE UP FOR EVER BOUTIQUE, THE FORT HIGH STREET, FORT BONIFACIO, TAGUIG
OTHER LOCATIONS: SHANGRI- LA MALL, ORTIGAS, PASIG CITY

THE VERDICT:

This is actually an unplanned purchase. Since I'm in dire need of a waterproof eyeliner, I decided to give it a try. At least it's cheaper than Chanel's waterproof retractable eyeliner.

A LOOK AT THE ACTUAL PRODUCTS

MUFE AQUA EYES IN 1L (GRAY)

This color is perfect for the brows since the color's softer than black.

MUFE AQUA EYES IN 10 (BLACK)

This one is for my theatre performances. It intensifies the brow colors by truly defining them and this is also perfect in making my eyes look deeper and it also creates a thicker lash effect.

SWATCHES ON MY SKIN

MUFE AQUA EYES 10 SWATCH

MUFE AQUA EYES 1L

**The color pay- off is excellent. It's quite pigmented and I love the soft and creamy consistency of the eyeliner. It's like a gel liner in stick form. It's easy to apply and if you make a slight mistake, the excess is easy to wipe off. Make sure you wipe it off quickly because it might dry on your lids and you will need water or oil to remove the excess because this baby is waterproof.

Here's MUFE Aqua Eyes in 10 on my lids. Check out the great pigmentation and how it gave my lash line more definition.

SO CHECK THE SWATCHES OUT AFTER I PUT MY HAND UNDER RUNNING WATER...

AQUA EYES 1L

AQUA EYES 10

**Check that both are persistent in staying on my skin. It took me a good rubbing of both swatches with soap and water before I almost removed every trace of the swatches on my skin, which goes to show that the waterproof promise has promise. Also, when I tried rubbing both off with just my dry hands, both stayed like permanent markers on my skin!

Overall, I found a cheaper alternative for my Chanel Waterproof Eyeliner. Chanel's waterproof promise is truly impressive but the actual eyeliner pencil is quite short so I used it up quickly, so there goes my 1350php. At least this just costs 950php. I also read that this really lasts long.

But 950php is still quite expensive so this better perform good.

I'll post a follow up review of this after I put this on a road test. Let's see if it'll withstand sweat, my oily lids and the humid weather. :D

BEAUTY BATTLES: BATTLE OF THE FUSCHIA LIPSTICKS

For this edition of the beauty battles, let's look at FUSCHIA LIPSTICKS.

Fuschia lipsticks are gorgeous. The color intensifies and gives a sultry look on tanned beauties and it adds a dash of flirtatious fun look on fair skinned ladies. The color can go from avant- garde to wearable so in a convenient way, this color will work best in any occasion!

I HAVE TWO FUSCHIA LIPSTICKS IN MY MAKE- UP STASH:

MAC HEATHERETTE COLLECTION SATIN LIPSTICK IN HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS
MAKE UP FOR EVER LACQUERED LIPSTICK IN 203 (ORANGE FLUO PINK)

L-R: MUFE AND MAC

You may assume that the pigment pay- off of the MAC l/s is relatively better than MUFE. Well, in terms of pigmentation, both are head- on. I just lightly swatched the MUFE l/s so that's the reason why it appeared less pigmented than MAC. Don't fret. MUFE's products have very good pigment pay- off so you're sure to get the maximum color you're looking for in every MUFE item.

L- R: MAC HEATHERETTE SATIN LIPSTICK IN HOLLYWOOD NIGHTS AND MAKE UP FOR EVER LACQUERED LIPSTICK IN 203 (ORANGE FLUO PINK)

This is MAC's Heatherette Lipstick in Hollywood Nights. This is described as a clean fuschia pink shade. It's obviously neon with a hint of orange under tone so the color became very vibrant. I bought this from a direct seller and it costed me 1000php.
It's in a satin variant and this glides on easily and is non- drying, unlike Matte variants. Staying power is relatively good. I think this color will flatter any skintone because IMO, Fuschia is a universal color that will look good on almost everyone.

I bought this because I thought it would be the perfect dupe for my MUFE l/s since my MUFE l/s is slowly being used up. I was planning to get Nars' lipstick in Funny Face but I'm having second thoughts on it since all the swatches looked light. I was planning to check Nars' Funny Face tomorrow but God brought me and this Heatherette lipstick together  because I accidentally dropped by a multiply site that sells MAC items last night.

This lipstick is my MUFE Lacquered Lipstick in 203 (Orange Fluo Pink). It's a neon pink shade with an orange undertone. This smells so good and is non- drying as well. It's semi- matte and the staying power is impressive, though it might take time for you to completely remove all traces of the fuschia color on your lips. This is priced at 1150php.

As compared to MAC, MUFE's l/s has a violet undertone so it appears just a tad bit darker than MAC. But I assure you, Hollywood Nights is 98% the same as 203. Both have excellent pigmentation and both products have good staying power so whichever appeals to you will prove to be a good buy. Regarding the price, both are equally expensive.

So what's my verdict? While the MUFE lipstick is expensive, the Heatherette Lipstick is out of stock so there's no choice but to opt for the MUFE l/s. I would repurchase Heatherette if this were only available here. MUFE is a great buy but MAC's packaging is such an eye candy. But in terms of lipstick color and quality, both are great. If you're in the USA, you could go to CCO outlets and find yourself one but for Philippine residents like me, "pabili" is an option so good luck paying the exorbitant shipping fee. Apart from that, there's a chance that you can't find Hollywood Nights anymore because some claim that this is already out of stock, even in some CCOs. :D I bought my MUFE 2 years ago in The Fort High Street MUFE Boutique but unfortunately, MUFE is not stocking on lipsticks because the lipsticks will be repackaged and they don't have any news yet on when the new design will be released. So we have to wait for the new lipstick line to arrive. But if MUFE's new l/s line comes out, I'm pretty sure this color will be available for us again. Make sure to grab one because 203 goes out of stock most of the time. :D

PRODUCT REVIEW: MAKE UP FOR EVER LACQUERED LIPSTICK

I'd like to review my only MUFE lipstick. It's in the lacquered variant and the color is 203 (orange fluo pink)

I bought this a year ago from the MUFE boutique in The Fort High Street. This costed me 1150php and I don't see it already in the lipstick counter of MUFE in TFHS.

Btw, MUFE's lipstick line ranges from sheer, to fantasy colored lippies to the glossy ones and to the lacquered (semi- matte) variants.

When I spotted this, they also had the last piece left so I immediately bought it because I'm a sucker for neon brights especially pink (who doesn't love pink anyway?)

THE VERDICT:

It's a bright pink lipstick with an orange undertone. Why is it called lacquered? This line of lipsticks by MUFE has uber pigmented colors that pays off exactly as it is on the tube. When I say bright, it's BRIGHT. It instantly gives your face a neon pink bulb. This also perfect to wear alone with a clean make- up while sporting a white dress.

It's uber pigmented and it smells like an expensive perfume. If my "scent memory" serves me right, the smell of this is similar to Dior's lipsticks. The staying power of this baby is tough, and when you wipe it off your lips, the color still lingers, giving you a "just bitten" pink lips.

'

It's very expensive, I know. That's why I'm trying to control myself from using this lipstick because I'm afraid the color was pulled out already in the P.I. (I'll  have to check Shangri- La for this when I empty this tube) so I might not find this color here.

It's not something that you should collect because MAC proves to be a better alternative. I might try another color from MUFE. But as far as I'm concerned, this is something that I'd definitely repurchase from MUFE.
