Review: Class of 06

Part Two: Trends of 2006

Masculine

Isn't dressing like a boy fun? Why else do you think the likes of Mulan did?
All things boyfriend were spotted on the catwalk over 2006, from the tuxs at Burberry to Topshop jeans. To add some femininity to this androgynous looks, flirty blouses, pinky hues and jewellry are key!

Volume

Although a trend that by some is considered by some incredibly hard to pull off, I loved seeing Volume around because it was such a versatile look and there is so much you can do with it. From baby capped sleeved in high street shops, to wide high waisted trousers, tulip skirts and cape coats it was everywhere! Steer away from puffball and stick with pairing a slim tee and a tulip or bubble skirt with opaques and platform style shoes for a bit of glamour!

IT Bags of 2006

The YSL Muse

Spotted on the arms of Kate and Lindsay to name a few, the appropriately named Muse was a spring hit and was available in classic colours aswell as metallic and croc for anyone in the mood for a twist.

The Stam

How lucky is Jessica!? Shes only 21, and not only is she a success international model, but shes folloing in the footsteps of the likes of Jane Birkin by having a gorgeous handbag as her namesake! Jealous?... and guess who is sampling the Marc Jacobs delight? Thats right, its Lindsay again. Looking gorgeous with a marilyn pic!
For me, this was one of my favourites and I guess it was for a lot of others; did you see how many high street rip offs multiplied?

The Chanel Purse

From the 2.55 to the many updated versions, the chanel purses were seen on the arm of every young (and loaded) It girl this year, because lets face it, they won't be going out of style for a while, will they? This classic design has had as many reinventions as Madonna, not bad for a bag thats been going since 1955!

The YSL Rive Gauche

Favoured by Sienna and Katie Holmes, this bag may not have had the same coverage as the others-but look at this sparkling beauty! I love its sheeny texture and slouchy quality. Not bad for £1,800 ($3500)! Ahem...

Fendi Spy

SJP, Keira, Mischa, Uma, Kelly O, Nicole to name a few of the Spy's "bitches" the spy was the proud owner of a very long waiting list of ladies all waiting to get their hands on the latest IT bag. Sadly, since last year (aha..) Fendi has moved on. But lets not forget how pretty it is.

Thanks for all your lovely comments I got for my last post, its getting feedback that keeps this blog going!

Review: Class of 06

Part One: Trends of 2006

Its a new year, full of promise, and anticipation as to what kind of creations will be wandering down the catwalk.

but... lets not forget the mass pretty lovely-ness of last year's designs.
Some of the collections were spectacular, and I don't want to forget them.
I've compiled a list of last years trends that I think had most success, and were spotted frequently on the catwalk. From Miu Miu's bejewelled brocade minidresses to Marc Jacob's grungey layers, here is your review of 2006. Part one...

Trend One: Grey

So much grey, so little time. Grey was everywhere over the winter catwalks, from brocade bottoms and rich tones in the SS06 collection Balenciaga to chunky knits at Stella M. Grey was officially crowned the "New Black".

Trend Two: Layering

While MJ went down the RIP Kurt route, Missoni incorporated a revamped seventie's chic vibe with floral wraps and glamorous furs, while the pastel ribbed tights echoed nostalgia of M & S schoolgirl days.

Trend Three: Brocade

Opulence and Extravagance were themes heavily featured in Winter 06. Something to do with the release of the cake-rich Marie Antionette.
Miuccia Prada embraced this trend in her collection at Miu Miu with cornice-style wedges that looked like they'd been sculpted from a venetian building, rich raspberries and khakis and the minidresses that became a staple of the season, being featured in numerous editorials.

Trend Four: Dresses

Something triggered the past memory of the dress being every girl's favourite item of clothing. You just had to dig deep and remember the fun of hitching up your summer dress on the beach as a kid to feel encouraged to play dress up again. The dress was definetly my favourite buy from last year, I bought five, paired with chucky socks, leggings and cardys? Perfect for winter, and they'll still be around Spring 07, just check out Lanvin's beauties.
And is it hard to realise what the trigger was? Look at these babies!

Trend Five: Leopard Print

No longer tainted by Pat Butcher and Kat Slater (Well, it is, but thats all part of the fun) animal print well and truly ruled. Louis Vuitton revamped and released cherry red scarfs printed with the spots, which were hawwt. Remember that Gucci dress spotted on Kate Bosworth? (Excuse the pun) After it was all over the catwalk, cue the high street shops to cover anything they could get their clever hands on. Ballet Slippers, Bags, Socks you name it...

ps, does Freja look especially good in the stuff or something?...

Trend Six: Platform Shoes

Man, I wouldn't wear these but they're damn pleasing to the eye! These wooden creations from Chloe look like something you'd find in a dusty corner of an old costume museam. No wonder Stam was head over heels (ahem..)

Sweaty Betty

Fashion has a new face!...

OK, US bloggers are probably way ahead already but its coming to the UK in just six sweet days!

(Channel 4, Friday 5 Jan 9.30PM)

Produced by Salma Hayek, Ugly Betty is about the superficial world of high fashion!
It stars America Ferrera (Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants) as well as roles with the Dean and Caleb from the O.C, so it should be sufficiently trashy and amusant!

Heres a little peek of what to expect.

Yay, so excited.

Anyone got any feedback on what its like?

The Ashley Hair Cycle

...Guess what!...

Ashley has done it again.

It seems this girl just can't make up her mind.

and she's fueled round two of the blonde vs brunette olsen debate.

Hmm...

Hot Hot Heat

This "flaming beauty" is up and coming canadian model Judith Berdard.
With her red mane she's like an edgier Elson, and shes managed to get herself a contract with the very chic french modelling agency Marilyn who also deal with Irina, Coco Rocha, Iekeliene Stange and La Moss herself.

I love her blunt fringe, porcelain complexion and versatile looks shown below. From pony girl chic to strange and beautiful!

I'm back! And these girls are biting each other's style!

OK, so the Christmas posting was kind of disrupted by...Christmas!

hmm, ironic.

So sadly, there was no "Day Seven" post.

but...instead is this...

anyone noticed the outbreak of monochrome striped polos (and pairing with McQueen scarves?...) in LA LA Land? Is there a sale on in Kitson or something?

I thought this issue needed to be addressed..

How was everyones christmas by the way?
