BEAUTY BUZZ: KRYOLAN FOUNDATION FOR DUMMIES

Kryolan is slowly starting to make waves in the film and tv industry, and slowly, becoming a household name for every cosmetic-holics in the Philippines.

To us in the theatre, it has always been our trusted brand for the stage. It delivers fantastic results, and it has met our standards for professional make- up: DURABILITY and RESILIENCE

Kryolan is also the manufacturer for some high- end cosmetics in the world.

Originally based in Germany, it has always been the leading brand for professional cosmetics throughout Europe. Recently, it has garnered attention across the US and Asia, and has been the make- up for the recently concluded MS. Universe 2009.

Kryolan also has counterparts: RCMA, Ben Nye, Snazaroo, Graftobian, to name a few.

Professional make- up has always a special place in make- up stash. It has always been my sole companion in my acting and stage endeavors. I may be biased, because I've only been using Kryolan. But as far as I'm concerned, Kryolan will always be the trusted professional make- up brand for me.

Kryolan boasts a wide range of cosmetics, especially for the main canvass: SKIN. A lot have been inquiring and are clueless on what to get: ultra, supra, aqua, micro, derma, etc. There are tons of variants, but, which one suits your need the most?

Here's a little knowledge that I've gained throughout my 3 years of Kryolan usage. I must say, it might take a lot of getting used to knowing which is which because they do have a lot of variants per product! But here's a little of what I know about their foundation line. I'm a sucker for foundation and their line is pretty much interesting and impressive, which enabled me to learn the importance and use of every single product.

So without further adieu, I present to you this entry's edition: KRYOLAN FOUNDATION FOR DUMMIES

ULTRAFOUNDATION (Cream)

Ultrafoundation is another runner- up in the stage and theatre category. A lot of my theatre colleagues have this foundation variant in their stash. Some actors do not like the thick and hot- feeling coverage of Supracolor, so they settle for Ultrafoundation. Ultrafoundation makes your skin look a bit better. It look less thicker than Supracolor. It completely blends with your skin when allowed to settle. But, it is not quite advisable for use in film and tv because the images are magnified, it can make the person look as if he/she is too made- up. This is the best bet for those who perform in small theatres, where the audience can almost see the actors face to face.

DERMACOLOR (Cream, Liquid)

Dermacolor is a correcting make- up line. It is specifically made to target consumers with heavy skin problems such as discoloration, burns, freckles, etc. Coverage is medium to heavy. Colors are quite off since the line is meant to conceal and camouflage any skin discolorations, whether light or heavy. The make- up line is meant to be waterproof, so it can withstand the wearer the whole day. It's like a cosmetic- medicine for the skin.

Dermacolor palettes (The most expensive line)

HD FOUNDATION (Cream, Powder, Liquid)

The HD line is specifically made to meet the demands of High Definition technology. HD make- up is gaining popularity nowadays because it gives a "NO MAKE- UP LOOK" to anyone. It acts and looks just like your skin. It is now highly recommended for the tv, film, and print.

AQUACOLOR (Cream, Liquid)

A water- based foundation. Glycerin- based. This is not advisable for humid countries and conditions, as this can melt right away. It is widely used for face and body painting. It comes in a variety of colors from tan- white, red- black. Since this is water- based, it is relatively safe for usage for any skin types because this can just wash off easily with soap and water.

Iridiscent Palette (for face and body painting)

SUPRACOLOR (Cream)

Supracolor is the widely recognized foundation variant for the stage in Kryolan's foundation line. It completely changes your skin in terms of tone and texture. It's like another layer of skin on your skin. In terms of coverage, this one's really thick. As in. It suits those who are into stage and theatre performing because stage lights can be a bit harsh. So everyday make- up will be completely washed out with stage lighting. And Supracolor's thick consistency and color pay- off makes it the best bet for the stage.

Skin Tone palette (Also available in the iridiscent palette)

ULTRAFLUID FOUNDATION (Liquid)

Probably the recommended foundation for everyday use. It blends like second skin and literally lasts throughout the day without streaking and caking. It corrects skin tones and fills in fine lines for a flawless finish.

TV PAINT STICK (Cream Stick)

The name speaks for itself. It is specifically made for the tv and film. Buildable and sweat- resistant. It withstands long shooting hours and is very spreadable. A little amount goes a long way. It is a multi- purpose stick. Layer it for stage and tehatre use and apply a sheer amount for tv and film use.

TO THOSE WHO ARE PLANNING TO USE KRYOLAN FOUNDATION ON A DAILY BASIS:

I suggest you go for TV paint stick, HD foundation, and Micro Silk Foundation. All variants can go from light to heavy coverage. For the Ultrafoundation, you can try the liquid and powder variants because cream foundation types have the tendency to look heavy and thick.

The similarity amongst the variants is their durability. They can withstand sweat and heat (to some extent). It truly is made for the professional industry. And in terms of price, Kryolan may be a bit steep to some, especially here in the Philippines. Those who live in the US and in Europe are quite lucky enough because truth be told, it is quite an average brand (in terms of pricing). But in terms of product longevity, you do get more for what you paid for because for all Kryolan products, a little always goes a long way. Just like my Supracolor palette 6's who's turning 3 years old already. :)
